Product Description
A poignant and unforgettable tale of love, loss, and moving on . . . with the help of one not-so-little dog Rocky's husband Bob was just forty-two when she discovered him lying cold and lifeless on the bathroom floor . . . and Rocky's world changed forever. Quitting her job, chopping off all her hair, she leaves Massachusetts—reinventing her past and taking a job as Animal Control Warden on Peak's Island, a tiny speck off the coast of Maine and a million miles away from everything she's lost. She leaves her career as a psychologist behind, only to find friendship with a woman whose brain misfires in the most wonderful way and a young girl who is trying to disappear. Rocky, a quirky and fallible character, discovers the healing process to be agonizingly slow. But then she meets Lloyd. A large black Labrador retriever, Lloyd enters Rocky's world with a primitive arrow sticking out of his shoulder. And so begins a remarkable friendship between a wounded woman and a wounded, lovable beast. As the unraveling mystery of Lloyd's accident and missing owner leads Rocky to an archery instructor who draws her in even as she finds every reason to mistrust him, she discovers the life-altering revelation that grief can be transformed . . . and joy does exist in unexpected places.

Best book I've read in a long time December 21, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really loved this book - recommended to all my friends and reading book club.
Great Sleeper November 24, 2008 This book has not garnered a lot of attention; however, it is an engaging story that holds the readers attention and I expect it will reach the bestseller list eventually. It is very well written, enjoyable to read, and makes for a perfect Sunday afternoon sofa book. The tone and style of writing are soft, smooth, and flowing. I would love to see this as a movie.
Great Read! November 20, 2008 I admit that I first picked up this book because of the beautiful chocolate lab on the cover. The description on the back convinced me to purchase the book. I'm glad I did, and I hope Jacqueline Sheehan continues to write. Although I was shocked at some of the things Rocky did, I realize that everyone deals with grief in their own way. She may be a psychologist, but what she knows about coming to terms with death is clinical until she loses her husband. I really enjoyed seeing Rocky open up and realize she can get on with life with the help of her new friends, especially Lloyd/Cooper.
great read! September 20, 2008 this is a very good book... even though it is fiction, so its not "true", it knida hits you right in the heart, in the way that matters. i'd recommend this to anyone who likes stories about love and animal bonds.
Lost & Found September 15, 2008 This story seemed to me to be more about the woman than the dog. It was still a short story that kept my interest.
