Product Description Pre-seasoned heavy cast-iron skillet Superior heat retention for even cooking Two heavy duty handles for easy lifting 12" diameter, 2" deep Lodge Logic, 12" Diameter, 2" Deep, Preseasoned Cast Iron Skillet, Ready To Use Right Out Of The Box, No Seasoning Required, Electrostatically Coated With A Proprietary Vegetable Oil, & Cured At High Temperatures To Allow The Oil To Deeply Penetrate The Surface Of The Cast Iron To Create An Heirloom Black Patina Finish.
Amazon.com Review Pancakes, eggs, and bacon somehow taste extra hearty when cooked in a heavy cast-iron skillet. Cast iron creates superior heat retention, heats evenly, and loves a campfire, unlike flimsier pans. Fry up a mess of catfish, roast a chicken, or bake an apple crisp in this generous 12-inch pan that features two handles for heavy lifting, and two subtle side lips for pouring. While the skillet comes preseasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. Whether used in a kitchen or camp, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations.--Ann Bieri

The most versitile and BEST non-stick pan you will ever own! December 31, 2008 Like Alton Brown says, this is the pan to have. When properly cared for (meaning by seasoning it once in awhile and not abrasively scrubbing and washing this pan with soap water) this pan will be the best non-stick pan you can find!
As a professional cook, when I cook at home I use this pan regularly. From deep frying (nice heavy pan holds heat well), pan searing then putting the whole pan into the oven to roast and finish, to even baking!
Do not use this for braising or say... making pasta, liquids don't do too well for this pan. I highly recommend this pan. Lodge has been making cast-iron for a long time and they make great products.
Arrived Damaged December 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The skillet arrived broken, with a large piece broken off from the skillet. Unusable. Seems to be a common issue for this product from Amazon. I can't see how it's cheaper for Amazon to not package this item well and then have to pay for so many returns versus just packing it correctly so it does not break. Oh well. Never got to use the skillet, so the rating is based on the shipping and not the skillet. But, you have get the item unbroken in order to use it.
Great piece of Iron - Not perfect though. December 20, 2008 Giving a new piece of Iron like this 5 stars is silly. Despite the "super space age special never stick seasoning" that they claim to do on this stuff, the simple fact of the matter is it's NOWHERE near the level of non-stick on your grandma's 50 year old skillet. But that's nothing surprising. What do you expect? That technology can overcome time and experience? Not when it comes to cooking. Anyways, all of Lodges pieces (and i own a lot of them) are made beautifully. I've never cracked one (knock on wood) and I use them frequently for searing (meaning i get them SMOKING hot baby!). They're priced right, and hold up great - so far.
If you want some great info on skillets, and also want to know how to actually get REAL non-stick out of your skillet (believe me, that factory "Seasoning" is a good start, but it simply just won't cut it when you want perfect eggs) then go to this site: [..] he is extremely knowledgeable on the subject, credits his sources, and seems like a good guy.
cheers, and buy as much of this stuff as your kitchen can hold! you won't regret it.
Best Cast Iron Pan out there December 17, 2008 I kept meaning to buy a cast iron skillet for the side burner on the barbecue grill for doing blackened fish etc. This pan is working out beautifully. I may have to get an even bigger one!
Cracked and chipped--D.O.A. Lodge Logic 12 inch December 15, 2008 I enthusiastically ordered this skillet after reading all the positive reviews and looked forward to using it for a lifetime. Unfortunately, it arrived D.O.A. with about a 2 inch crack on the inside near where the pouring lip is. I thought to myself that maybe that is how they are manufactured but then noticed the crack ended with a chip on the top on the other side. I only then read other reviews mentioning these skillets arriving with cracks in them. I'm still in disbelief that a cast-iron skillet was damaged so drastically without even being used. The product is obviously flimsier than expectations and it's carpe-diem with this one. Fortunately, I ordered from AMAZON (and not a third party), so returning an item is easy.
