Small - But Well-Made January 6, 2009 As everyone as mentioned - this is a very small shovel. The head is not much larger than my hand. However, I wanted to put one in each of my vehicles and on my snowmobile and ATV in case of an emergency, and they are perfect for that application. They fold up into a tiny case - but appear to be well constructed of decent metal.
Does what I need it to do. December 2, 2008 I have seen other reviewers' reviews about the size of the shovel. It is small but it does exactly what I bought it to do. When I get stuck I can easily pull out this little thing and dig myself out. And as much as I hate to admit it, I've done that more times than I should admit. It has been sturdy enough and large enough for my husband to use to dig a small hole as well.
If you are looking for a larger shovel that is more shovel like in size, this is not it. If you are looking for something that is small, easy to store, and sturdy enough to dig a small hole, this is a good one to have.
Smaller than expected, but very top quality November 26, 2008 Just like the other reviewers, I was surprised how small this shovel was. It was much smaller and lighter than the military equivalent. The handel unscrews making its storage much easier. After I thought of the smaller size, I realized, what do I need a larger shovel. The quality is very good and is great for back packing. I have over 40 years of back country experience climbing in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, Alaska, Siberia, Arctic Ocean Island groups, Southeast Asia, the Philippines, Arkansas Plateau and many places in the western U.S. deserts, and ten years of Geographic North Pole Expedition experience. This is really exactly what I was looking for and the price was right and so was the quality. C. Jeff Dyrek, Explorer.
The blade is only 4" wide October 1, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a solid and sturdy little shovel.
My problem is that it is so little. The blade is only 4 inches wide at the widest point and the whole unit when folded fits in one hand.
Imagine making diagonal folds on an index card as if making a paper airplane that is what the blade is like.
Other than that it is of typical Coleman quality
good quality but SMALL August 25, 2008 This is a small shovel. I missed that info in the product listing. Probably good for backpacking but I got it for use in my 4WD off-roading and it's really too small for that purpose.
