Very satisfied. July 28, 2010 Bala. A (Longmont, CO) One of the best torch lights that I've owned ever. Very bright, solid and sturdy!
"the sun" July 23, 2010 Kelly Hines (Maryland/Georgia) I work at a summer camp and my campers have nick named my flashlight "the sun" because of how bright it is. It's kinda heavy but it's such a great flashlight.
Solid Light, nice bright LED bulb. July 15, 2010 AFRugger (Southern Maryland, USA) Solid construction as always with a Mag-Lite. The LED upgrade to the bulb is nice and bright!
Too heavy for an all purpose light. July 10, 2010 Jimmy Morelli (South Boston, MA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
These lights are over rated in my book. I know Mag-Lite is supposed to be a great product but for what it is it is impractical for most everyday uses. I also find the quality of light produced to be a bit poor when the lens is fully dilated and too concentrated when not. I after using this I would without a thought go with a cheap plastic light over this one.
For a cop or security officer I can see them using this flash lite. It serves two functions, a source of light and a last effort personal security device. For this reason it is a good flash lite for your car.
For everyday use it is way to big and much to heavy. For an aluminum light you would think it would be a bit more sturdy. I've dropped many a plastic light in my time and 90% of the time it still works. Every time I drop this Mag-Lite from hip level the bulb breaks. I chalk this up for being Aluminum and offering no absorption of the shock of the fall.
When your in a high stress situation you want a light that can take a beating. Lets be honest here when your using a flashlight your in the dark, you senses are limited and your more vulnerable to walking into things and dropping your light. If your in a darkened situation and you lose your only source of light then you up a certain creek.
For the every day use I recommend going with a plastic flashlight, and yes a more durable light. Just because the casing is strong the bulbs are still sensitive lacking the proper material to absorb the shock and save the bulb makes this a poorly designed light for your normal everyday uses. It should be labeled a specialty light.
Really bright, durable July 4, 2010 Gary F. Harrell (El Dorado, AR USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was first introduced to Mag-Lite's in law enforcement use almost thirty years ago and have always been impressed with their rugged reliability and quality construction, so it was the first brand I looked at when I decided to get a LED flashlight. Before ordering, I was a little concerned about the single LED, since 3 watts doesn't seem like a lot, but this sucker is bright! In fact, it seems just as bright the old Mag-Lite "Krypton" bulbs, and you don't have to constantly replace batteries! I have no idea how long the batteries will last, but with just a 3 watt draw, it should be a long time. Another advantage of the single LED is that it can be focused to a really tight beam if desired. Of course, as with all Mag-Lites, it can be adjusted to a flood if necessary. I experienced no "black spot" in the middle of the beam, as some reported, and the light was a brilliant pure white. I highly recommend this flashlight, and, as a bonus, Mag-Lite's are "Made in the USA".
